Assimilate! (A Party Game)
Frequently Asked Questions

How do i join a game?
Joining a game is a breeze!
1) First, go to assimilate.tv using any web-enabled device.
2) Enter the four-digit game code found on the game, type in your name, and click "Join Game!". That's it!

Please do NOT use an "incognito window" or "private browsing" tab to join the game as you will not be able to reconnect if disconnected.

Please Note: Only one user can join a game per browser, per device. It's also worth noting that the web browser you use to join the game has to support/enable cookies, HTML5, JavaScript, & web-sockets in order to play. While this is very common among common browsers, you may notice issues if using an older, out-of-date version of a web browser.
What are the rules/how do i play?
How you play the game depends on which role you are assigned. For instance, if you're the:
  • Programmer  - Help the Robot sneak into the Sock-hop!
    • During the "Clue Entering Phase": Your job is to help the robot learn the password by entering a clue that is slightly more descriptive than everyone else. Here's a tip, your clue should describe 2-3 words on the list. If it only describes 1, it's probably too specific.
    • During Deliberation: Your job is to defend the Robot and yourself. If you cannot remember who your teammate is, click the "See Role" button on the top of your screen as it will tell you who the Robot is. You can choose to defend yourself, accuse others, or stay under the radar if you have not been called out, but regardless of your approach always PRETEND TO BE A HUMAN.
    • How to Win: If you and your robot friend are NOT identified during the final vote (Round 3 in Regular Play, or end of Round 1 in Quickplay), you win!
  • Robot - Try to Assimilate among the humans, undetected.
    • During the "Clue Entering Phase": Your job is to use the programmer's clue to help enter a clue of your own. Remember, you are NOT trying to guess the password, but instead, trying to describe the password like a human would. Ideally, your clue should 'blend in' with the other humans in the game. Since you do not know the password, try to enter something somewhat vague but not too vague.
    • During Deliberation: Your job is to defend the Programmer and yourself. If you cannot remember who your teammate is, click the "See Role" button on the top of your screen as it will tell you who the Programmer is. You can choose to defend yourself, accuse others, or stay under the radar if you have not been called out, but regardless of your approach always PRETEND TO BE A HUMAN.
    • How to Win: If you and your programmer friend are NOT identified during the final vote (Round 3 in Regular Play, or Round 1 in Quickplay), you win!
  • Human - Identify (and kick out) that pesky Robot & Programmer!
    • During the "Clue Entering Phase": Your job is to convince the other humans you are one of them by entering THREE clues that clearly convey you know the password. Remember, if your clue is too specific you might be mistaken as the programmer. However if your clue is too vague, you might be mistaken as the Robot. So do your best to make sure all three of your clues are in that sweet spot; not too vague and not too specific.
    • During Deliberation: Your job is to correctly identify the Robot & Programmer.
    • How to Win: There are two ways for the humans to win. First, if a majority of the humans (>50%) correctly vote for the Robot, you win! Additionally, if ALL the humans UNANIMOUSLY identify the programmer, you win!
i got disconnected! What should i do?
In most cases, if you get disconnected from the game just refresh your browser and wait. It may take, in some extreme cases, up to a minute to reconnect but it usually happens in <10 seconds.

Please Note: Do NOT use an "incognito window" or "private browsing" tab in your browser to join the game as you will not be able to reconnect if disconnected. Additionally, only one player can join per device, per game. If you attempt to join more than one player on a device, this will also prevent you from being able to reconnect.
how many players can join?
Normal Gameplay is designed for 5-10 players. However, players can also play as an "Observer" if they join the game after it has started, and we can support up to 99 observers in a game.
WHAT IS "OBSERVER MODE"?
If a player joins the game after it has started, they can still participate in the fun as an Observer. Observers do not have to enter clues during the "Gameboard" scenes, but can make accusations on who they suspect during Deliberation.

While Observer votes do NOT count towards the final vote, their votes will show up in a lighter font color during deliberation to differentiate their votes from the current players. Players in the game are encouraged to reference observer votes to help determine who they should suspect.

Assimilate! (A Party Game) can accommodate 5-10 players, but an additional 99 players can join as Observers.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "PLAY GAME" & "QUICKPLAY"?
Clicking "Play Game" will start the normal (recommended) 3-round game of Assimilate.
  • In Round 1, all the players (including the Robot) see the list of words that we provide
  • In Round 2, all the players (including the Robot) see the list of words that the players provides (unless your group submits <18 words in which case we will populate the rest)
  • In Round 3 (the final round), there is NO list on the board so the Robot will have to be EXTRA careful when entering their clues.

"QuickPlay" mode is just "Round 1" from the list above. It is obviously much quicker, but tends to be harder for the humans to identify the Robot/Programmer. Quickplay is ideal for introducing the game to new players, or if you are just looking to play shorter games.
Will assimilate be offered in other languages?
Yes, definitely! Though we just launched in English, we will be localizing the game in other languages soon. Be sure to follow our Social Channels for updates for any new features (including languages) as they become available.
I found a bug. HOw do I report it?
The best way to inform us of any bugs you come across is by adding a ticket in our Discord Channel, or you can email us at [email protected].
I cannot start a game from the main menu - what should i do?
If you’re unable to start a game from the Main Menu it is most likely a result of one of two issues. 1) No Internet Connection. Please check your internet connection and try again. 2) We have received some feedback from players using certain Antivirus software (such as Kaspersky, McAfee, etc.) that may interfere with the computer’s ability to connect to our server and start a game. If you believe this might be the case, try to “Allow” Assimilate or “Unblock” our game and you should be good to go!
